Farewell to a special man

Today I attended the funeral of a local icon. It was a service of thanksgiving for a true gentleman who loved his family, his farm, and his Lord. He lived his faith and was happy to tell anyone who would listen about it. The church was packed to overflowing, and his family spoke of their memories, and their were many funny stories told. We sang his favourite hymns with gusto. You will be missed Moss, and you have left a great legacy in your family.

Moss' life was not always easy, and he understood the trials of mental illness. This enabled him to stand with others when they suffered, and this is how our family is connected to him. He spent many hours with my husband supporting him as he dealt with his depression. There is still a stigma attached to this type of illness, and not a lot of people understand. I thank you Moss for standing with our family.

So while this was a service of thanksgiving for Moss' life, I found it very emotional, as it brought up a lot of things for me, and tonight, I feel quite "wrung out".

I did wonder about this post, whether I should post it, and what I should say, but wanted to acknowledge Moss' support.

Blessings, from Jude

The connections you make to people through out your life are what make life special. It is wonderful that you acknowledge the gratitude you have for a man that helped your husband when he needed it most. There is a long way to go, but I do feel we talk about acceptance of mental health issues in a different light to when i was in my 20's. I hope that continues to improve, as we all need help for lots of different reason through out our lives.

Glad you did post, & he sounds like an exceptional man. Mental health was a very taboo subject when I was growing up & with a Mum who had them (severely), you always felt very much out of things. Off to Sydney today as little brother is quite poorly, but will ring when we get back & do a catch up chat. Take care & big hugs.
