Last week.....

I seemed to have kept up with posts for most of November, so this is a short post. Most of the week has been spent with Max working on a custom quilt, and I am pleased to say I finished this yesterday. Photos will wait until I do another quilt post.

Today has been a mostly desk day, replying to emails and paying accounts and all those necessary admin jobs. This morning it was Bible Study time and we are studying Leviticus this term and there is much to learn and discuss. This afternoon I did some shopping and had a doctor appointment.

Last Saturday turned into an impromptu sewing day for a few, with girls coming and going throughout the day. Lois came with a top for me to quilt, and ended up going down a rabbit hole. She had a picture of a quilt she intended to make and some of the fabric she needed. I think she only wanted an opinion, but before she left Pat and I had helped her choose another piece to add in, calculated the measurements for her and even cut some of her pieces with the Go Cutter. Which then led to her sewing most of her half square triangle units before she left!!

Pat was working on the blocks for her President's Challenge, and Val came to help me with a quilt.

I was planning a string quilt for a special event, and Val ended up making half of the blocks I needed.

Later in the day, after everyone else had left I made the rest of the blocks in an evening stitching while 'watching' a movie.

I was thinking about how and what to use for sashing and made up this unit, but wasn't quite sure???

After sending photos for opinions I came up with option 2, and we were all much happier. The black defines the on point squares much better.

Next choice was to the border.......

...... and this was the final result.

I also have some plans to add some 'bling' of some sort, probably before the quilter gets her hands on it? So that's another decision to make sometime.

A lot of time has been spent in the back garden this week, in an effort to make up for the recent neglect. Not long ago it was tidy and weed free after some spraying and week kill, but then it kept raining, the weeds grew again and due to being busy and the weather being cold....
....this is what it looked like!!

I am spending quite a few early mornings in the garden and progress, although slow, is happening.

I can't believe that today is the last day of November!! December and the first day of Summer?? After such cold and wet, it will climb to 35deg by the weekend!  One month to go and it will be 2023.

That's about it for this post. Bet you are shocked it's so short?
There are plans for the next few days and I shall be back soon with news of plans for 2023.

The last week and a bit........

I had intended updating newsfromjude on Sunday afternoon, but did have a birthday post to do and then I decided it was time for a customer quilt update. So here I am 3 days in a row with a blog post.

My intentions this morning were to spend time in the garden pulling a LOT of weeds that have taken off with all of the rain we have had. I did have my back garden all sprayed and weed free not so long ago. I woke up this morning and looked out to see no rain, and thought 'this is the day!' Out I went and got busy but it wasn't long before the rain came down again. My back was a bit damp when I came back inside, so I am sitting by the heater now, hoping to dry out. Perhaps tomorrow...... as the weather is forecast to be up in the low 30's by Friday?? Not sure how I will cope with that after being 11deg yesterday!!

Once again I am reporting on a full week, although the diary entries for the coming week only have one appointment marked, so that sounds good.

Early last week Raylene and I sorted out 'stuff' to take to sell and early Wednesday morning we packed the car and off we went. This was my 4th trip up the highway in not quite 2 weeks!

Cornerstone Creations was the 'shop' at the SA Quilters Guild day meeting, and a few gathered for coffee before the meeting...........

.........and then it was time to unpack our 'stuff' and set up the tables allocated to us.........

......we managed to spread it all out in the space we had............ Robyn came to help. Thankyou to my assistants. We had a good time and were very happy with sales.

Then it was time to pack up the remaining stock, and head for home after calling in to see Mum on the way. The cases were unloaded but not unpacked until Thursday onto my shelves. Stock is gradually being listed onto my blog Sale page, and next year will bring more selling opportunities.

Thursday was the Gum Tree Quilters sewing day, and we called in to say hello, and I took some photos for our monthly newsletter.

******************

The weather has been very cold and wet and it seems like winter instead of spring. Hard to believe that summer is here in 2 weeks!! And here we are lighting the fire mid November!

In spite of the weeds and the neglect my strawberry patch is bearing fruit. The birds are enjoying them too or the container would have been fuller.

*******************

The fairy has been busy making gifts of an apron, pot holders and microwave bowl cozies.

She has also been busy working on this string quilt, in an effort to use up the strings. And proudly called Ta Daa!! And I duly took the photo........... and what do you see??

Whoopsie..... where is the unpicker!..........

.....and now it's fixed!! A backing was pieced and the quilt is now in the 'waiting to be quilted' queue, making friends with the others waiting there!

*******************

On Friday, GD3 came to visit. Grandma, can you cut up my school uniform, now that I don't need it anymore, and make an outfit to wear at schoolies?? This uniform has been worn well so I didn't feel bad cutting into it...............Between us all a skirt and top was made....... and even a bag out of the pocket and collar! We had a lovely day and achieved what she wanted.

***********************

On Saturday we ventured to Padthaway, which is about half hour drive from Bordertown. Padthaway is an area known for vines and wineries and about 20 members enjoyed Christmas lunch, at the Farmers Leap restaurant.

********************
Sunday was church day, followed by a meeting and the afternoon was very quietly spent by the fire, and a book may have been read!

***********************

About a week ago a goods train derailed near Geelong in Victoria, which resulted in the Overland train not running this week...............the photo looks like lego bricks spread out on the floor!!!

.......so this meant Raylene's journey home was not to be on the train. They organised buses for the passengers instead, so we arrived at the station at the allotted time to wait for the bus. Again it was a rainy day and we waited and waited.......

.............and 1 1/2 hours later a bus arrived!! (There was a phone call during that time to advise us of the delay). And lo and behold the bus says The Ghan?? We wondered if they might take Raylene all the way to Darwin instead of Adelaide, but no, not Darwin.

*******************
I think it's time to finish off this post. Thanks if you have read this far. There is more news about another subject to come another day.
Thankyou to the alert person who notified me about my profile that still read 10 grandchildren. It has now been updated to 11! I will continue to add sale items and I have updated the Scheduled Retreats Page also.

Customer quilting update................

I've been looking back into the files and have noticed that the last customer quilt update was September 16th!! So it must be time to post a few quilts. I must have been doing some quilting with Max, even though it seems like there has been a lot of "other" stuff happening.

First up are 2 quilts made by Val for her great grandchildren. These both feature unicorn fabric and one of the little ones was so excited to receive her 'horse' quilt!! Both are the same pattern, but with different borders.

These are both quilted allover with Easy Loops.

This is Erica's Rainy Days quilt, and it was quilted allover with a pattern called Sticky Buns, and I love the texture this gives to the quilt.

This is another quilt made by Erica, using farmyard fabrics and quilted allover with Broken Glass.

Marion made this pretty 4 patch quilt, although the fabrics look a bit pale in this photo. This was quilted with Feathered Flowers.

Jenny made this little quilt, featuring a Christmas tree Panel with borders. I simply crosshatched through the panel and simple patterns in the borders.

Jenny also made this quilt, featuring Half square triangles in different sizes. The pattern I used on this quilt was Baroque Swirls.

Maria made this pretty quilt, using 30's fabrics. I quilted this allover with an appropriate edge to edge, called 30's flower.

This starry quilt was another made by Erica, and was also quilted with Stars.

The next 3 quilts were made by Suzie for children and were all quilted simply with a pattern called Stars a Swirl.

This will be a wedding gift for Pat's grandson. He knows about it, but will have to wait until next year after the Bordertown quilt show to get it!! It was also quilted with Sticky Buns.

Lois made this quilt using Australian fabrics and once again, you can see Sticky Buns, as I thought it suited the designs in the fabrics.

Kerry made this lovely applique quilt, which is a Lori Holt pattern called Bee Happy. This was custom quilted.

Kerry also made 2 pillows that were custom quilted too.

Rosie made this Double wedding ring quilt, and I have to tell you it was all hand pieced!! She wanted less quilting, so a very simple design in the rings was chosen, although it wasn't quite so simple by the time I ditched all the rings.

I think that is about all for this post. I have been busy with Max again today and hope to get a few more crossed off the queue in the next week or so.
I'll be back soon with another post to update on the last week's happenings. It's scary just how fast the weeks are whizzing by as we head to the end of the year.
