At retreat.............Part 2

It is a custom to have a special dinner one night at Scrub Stitching. There is usually a theme for the evening, and we were all waiting eagerly (perhaps not so?) for Chooky to reveal the theme. This year it was "What does Australia mean to you?" Well, that was a challenge, but not really. I know what Australia means to me, but to dress for that was perhaps something to think about. And because we only had 4 weeks notice to come up with the goods, and life was rather hectic, I took the easy way out, which you will see further down the page.

Friday night was the chosen night for this dinner of Roast beef and vegetables. We were instructed to leave the sewing room at 4.30 and head outside for drinks and nibbles, prior to getting 'dressed' for the event and be outside the door again at 6pm!! (Meanwhile the helpers were to dress and decorate the table and room for dinner).

It was a lovely evening outside while we were wondering what was happening in the room.

The dining table was set with Australian flora and fauna and there were flags strung up around the room.

As we all entered the room Aussie music was playing. It was such fun to see how everyone had interpreted the theme. Such a variety of ideas!!
I am sorry I did not take heaps of photos of this, and acknowledge that I have 'borrowed' some pics from the group page. Thankyou to whoever took some of the following.

I will start with Raylene and myself, who took the easy way out. In the shed I have many plastic tubs, and the contents of each are for the retreats that have been held at Number 8. One is the pink retreat, another Christmas in July, another Black and bling and another for the Aussie retreats. So it did not take long to find our shirts,  head gear and flags. Simple and not too much to think about.

Pat also has an Aussie shirt like ours, but she did think a bit more than us. She has clothes the colour of the Australian dirt, and appropriate jewellery and opal earrings from Cooper Pedy.

Tracey and Deana came as tourists, and played the part very well.

Here we have 2 Gumnut babies with a Gumtree in the middle!

Sylvia put a lot of thought into her costume!! She was amazing.....a snake around her neck with a mouse attached for the snake to eat.............an apron with a pocket for a baby joey....... a teapot on her head, for high tea.........

..........a crocodile along her arm...........

.and all hand made by Sylvia.

Here we have Kath and Kim, and the voices were so good!!

Sue loves Australian birds, and made her outfit using fabric with Australian birds on..........

.and Raewyn was a Gumtree.

There were many more very creative people who had thought about the theme. Others were the Deep blue sky, freedom, a barbecue and going to the footy!
It was such a fun night with lots of laughs as everyone had to stand up and talk about their theme. It was obvious we all love our country.

Thanks for a great night girls.

Blessings, From Jude
