Colour Therapy workshop

Top photo is Pat's kookaburra, which she has appliqued onto a background that she dyed herself in a workshop with Marie of Holly Handdyes, who is teaching this at The Sanctuary from March 23-25. There are still a couple of places left, so if you are interested in learning how to dye your own fabric, enjoy the company of others and take time out from the usual routine please email me for more details.
The bottom photo is Marie's kookaburra, done on a background which she painted herself. She wasn't too sure about it at first, but now the bird is on his branch, it looks great. Love the pink in the sky.
I look forward to hearing from you if you would like to do this.

Enjoy your day, I have a few edge to edge quilts for this week, a cleanup at The Sanctuary, and remake the beds ready for another influx of people this coming weekend.
I am so glad that the weather will be cooler, in the 20's all week, sounds just lovely.

Blessings,

Kookaburra workshop with Heather Ridley

Heather demonstrating some stitching techniques, all concentrating hard!
Below is the action early in the first day, sorting out what fabrics to use and listening to the teacher.

Posted by PicasaThis is the show and tell of their progress to lunch time on sunday. They all look pretty good dont they? And notice the lady on the right, who had to be different and put her background on point??
Always one in every class!
Everyone seemed to enjoy their weekend, despite the almost 40deg on Saturday. Glad for the airconditioner and the fans. And without mentioning any names, one lady did a lovely pieced background for her kookaburra, but unfortunately left it draped over the lounge chair in her house, which was over an hour away, so no going back! And because you take everything in case you might need it to a workshop, she had a lovely fabric with leaves printed on it, that made a great second option. Think she will be doing another kookaburra when she gets home.

So if you would like a weekend away with good company and comfy beds, consider a weekend retreat at The Sanctuary. Check out the page link for workshop retreats at the top of the page.

Time to put the feet up after a hot, busy but great weekend.

Christian Women's Retreat at The Sanctuary

Last weekend was a very special time at The Sanctuary, where Barb Minge led us in a time of "Be Still and Know that I am God".
Sessions commenced on Friday evening with a getting to know you session and introduction. Saturday afternoon was some time out to do craft, read, relax or snooze, and the top photo shows Yvonne getting a foot massage from Jean. Sunday morning we had a service in the back pergola. The weekend catering by Julie was magnificent, finishing on Sunday afternoon with "High Tea"! Barbs teaching and the sharing amongst each other made for a great retreat.

This afternoon another group are gathering at The Sanctuary for a workshop with Heather Ridley from Adelaide, who will teach an appliqued kookaburra class. Will blog about this next week.
Well better go and make sure all is ready, have the air con going, its forecast to be 38deg tomorrow, so will be good to stay inside.

Enjoy your day,
Blessings

A few quick quilts

As I have been reminded by a couple of friends that it is over a week since I published to my blog, thought I better put something up.
These are 3 small quilts done last week, simple edge to edge quilting.
Had a lovely weekend retreat at The Sanctuary last weekend, will put up a couple of photos of that later. Another retreat happening this weekend, so its all go here. Trying to get a couple of custom quilts done this week for pickup by the weekend. Be back another day.

Enjoy your week,

Lois' bargello

L
A photo of Lois' bargello quilt, finished last week. Lots of movement happening with the change in direction and colours. Love the colours in this quilt, it is brighter in real life than the photo shows. Hope that Lois likes it as well as the star quilt from a couple of weeks ago.

And yesterday I finally finished my marathon task of catching up with the bookwork. Have gone from July 2010 to February 2012 in the last month, so a weight has been lifted from my mind. (Wish it was just as quick to get a weight off the body too!!!)  And have all my stuff ready for my visit with the accountant tomorrow morning. Feels so good to get this done.
Now to get a few edge to edge quilts done this week and a good cleanup and dust at The Sanctuary as I have a booking for this weekend. Spent the weekend in the garden over there, in between sitting at the computer. The weather has been just lovely, temperature in the mid to high 20's. Good living weather!

I think that the lunch break is well and truly over, so best get back to loading another quilt.

Enjoy your day,

2 more Angels

A couple of photos of a couple more Angels (Jean and Pauline), at work today, at our monthly "Angels" day, to make quilts for those in need, or just to say we care. Some of the pile that Pat quilted a couple of weeks ago, which I blogged about in a previous post, had bindings put on today. It is good to have a stockpile of a few quilts, so that when we hear of someone who could use one, its not a rush to get it made.
And as I have not finished any show and tell for you this week, I told the girls I needed to take their photos instead.
I was working on a custom job, and unfortunately have an unpicking job to do, and have not finished the next one yet.
Still working on my books, not much left to do, and I shall be up to the end of December, 2011!
Also trying to tidy the garden at The Sanctuary ready for a retreat soon. So, lots happening, and thankfully the weather is really great at the moment, not hot and not cold. (Hard to please, aren't I?)

Enjoy your day,
Blessings

Quilt for Lois

A couple of photos, of Lois' quilt which I did earlier in the week. We are both pleased with the way it turned out. Have had 3 days in the big city since I finished this, home last night and back to work today.
Spent time with family and then attended the Valuation Panel day which is always an interesting day and we get to see some great quilts.

Today it is 10 years since my first quilting machine arrived from the US, a Gammill Premier, to which I later added a stitch regulator. And 5 years later, also in February I purchased my second machine, Gammill Optimum with the Statler Stitcher. I later sold the Premier.
Its hard to believe that Cornerstone Creations Machine Quilting has been going for 10 years!
Have seen many quilts in that time, been a wonderful journey and met so many great people, (some in person, and some by phone!), thank you all so much. I have seen so much change in this industry, wonder where we will be in another 10 years?

As a reply to the couple of comments about what I acheived last week, I would just like to add that you would not be so impressed if you could see the housework that was not done, the dust on the furniture that you could write the date in (!!) and the cobwebs around my house!! I do hope to get to all that soon, when the bookwork is all caught up.

Enjoy your weekend, whatever you are doing.
