A farewell to my friend, Margie.................

This week we have farewelled my good friend Margie. We met 34 years ago when our family moved to the Bordertown farm. We soon met one of our neighbors and there started a special friendship.
Our children were similar ages and all travelled the school bus into town each day.

This family were a big help to us starting out farming in a new area, and also stepped up to help out when later our family faced a traumatic time. Margie was a city girl who had adapted well to country farming life when she married the love of her life.

Margie encouraged me to join the local KYB (Know Your Bible) group which was held weekly in member's homes. While I had grown up attending Sunday School and Church, it wasn't until I joined this group that I really began to read and study the Bible and grow in my faith.

There was a real sense of community amongst the residents of the area and there were many social occasions over the years, including KYB end of year, family birthdays, 21st celebrations and engagement parties.

Margie was always smiling and we had a lot of fun together over the years. We went bike riding most Wednesdays and often pedalled into Bordertown and back which was 16km from our gate and 22km from their farm gate. Monday afternoons we would head to the local indoor pool and swim 96 laps. It wasn't a large pool, but 96 laps totalled 1.6km, or 1 mile in the old measurement!!   Just writing this I am wondering where all that energy went??

For many years we journeyed to Victor Harbour in March for the annual CWCI (Christian Women) conference. I remember the first time we went. It had been a very last minute decision to go, and we were unable to attend the Friday night session. After a very early start and a drive of 3 1/2 hours, we arrived a 'tad' late on the Saturday morning and walked into an auditorium of 1000 women already seated!! After our initial shock, we had the most amazing uplifting weekend, especially singing with 1000 other voices.

A few years later, we sold our farm and moved into town and then a few more difficult years followed as our family farewelled a husband and father, all made easier with friends beside us.

When I started talking about buying a longarm quilting machine, Margie and Barry were very encouraging and supported me every step of the way. Although Marg was a sewer and knitter, she never aspired to making quilts. This did not deter her from taking an interest in what I was doing, and checking out the quilts on the machine and taking note of how I was quilting them.
She journeyed to the Adelaide quilt show with me and shared my excitement when I won the Best of Show award for my quilt Woven Inspiration.

My next venture was to purchase The Sanctuary for quilting retreats and again they were right behind me with support, including helping me bid at the house auction.

I also organised Christian Women retreats at this house and Marg was a definite attendee. These were very special weekends with much fellowship, learning, sharing..........

........... and even a pergola church service with communion.

Marg and Barry had 2 sons living in West Australia and they made many journeys across the Nullabor to visit them. Here they were calling in to my house to wish me Happy Birthday before they left. Marg never forgot a birthday, a wedding anniversary or other significant dates.

We watched each other's families grow up, attended weddings, celebrated births and attended funerals.

There were many gatherings at The Sanctuary and Number 8 over the years with friends.

Some years ago illness changed the life of Margie and there was a slow deterioration, which eventually led to a diagnosis of Frontotemporal dementia. After some years with at home with a private personal carer, in 2019 Margie was admitted to nursing home care.  Covid rules and regulations, and the isolation that resulted made life more difficult for residents, their families and visitors.

A special wheel chair was sought for her needs, and then Barry purchased a special wheelchair bus so that he could take Margie for outings away from the 4 walls of her room. She loved the trips to visit favourite spots, out to their farm, to the beach or just driving around the district.

Gatherings at Number 8 continued with Margie in the wheel chair.

She loved her visits in the summer when the strawberries were ripe..........

.....and this was in March when we celebrated her birthday, with a cake, aged 69.

The last few weeks has been hard, especially for her family, watching her slowly fade and I was thankful to be able to visit her just before.

The funeral service was a lovely tribute to her and a witness to her deep faith that stood the test of adversity through much suffering. We know that Heaven is our final home, our ultimate place of complete peace, security and joy forever. No more pain or suffering.

Thankyou Margie for being such a good friend and support to me and my family. You will be missed.

It has been quite a job, going back through the photo files from all those years, and reliving the memories, and very sobering knowing we were the same age. Also seeing many photos of other friends and family who have gone before. So feeling rather flat and emotional as a result. Tomorrow is another day.

Blessings, From Jude

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to my 3rd baby. How time flies and it hardly seems long since you arrived 41 years ago. I remember it was winter, with many frosts and turned out to be a drought year!!

I found this blast from the past earlier today while scanning through photos!! I was very pregnant with baby number 4!

Lovely to have a chat with you this morning. I hope your day has been special!

Luv from Mum

June Clearance Sale continues.......

Tonight I have updated the For Sale - Fabric Bundles and Miscellaneous Notions Page with new bundles and sale prices. Click on the header at the top of the page and peruse the listing. I look forward to hearing from you if something takes your fancy, and thankyou to those who have placed orders so far. I will be in touch very soon.

This week I have turned Max on for the first time since May 11th!! I even remembered what to do and have finished 2 quilts. Yesterday it was QFO day and much was achieved. I even attempted to vacuum the carpet, but my cordless worked for 30 seconds and stopped. It did the same last week, so I thought I better clean the filters in case that was the problem. But no, it didn't help. So what is next? Do I see if it can be repaired or accept it has done it's lifes work?? Meanwhile, don't look at my carpets.

Time to finish for tonight. Another quilt on the agenda for tomorrow. Back soon.

Blessings, From Jude

Our trip and the JUNE CLEARANCE SALE!!

We departed from home all laden up on Thursday.........................

Then it was set up time at the SA Quilters Meeting.............

.......... we were kept busy as members arrived...........

....and soon it was time for the meeting, which was conducted by President Heather Ford. We listened to guest speakers, which was followed with some amazing  show and tell..............

At the conclusion of the meeting, there was more shopping time.  Then it was time to pack  up the remaining stock  after a very successful evening.

Friday morning was the bimonthly Appraisal Panel meeting for Pat and I and then 3 tired ladies headed up the highway again, with a quick stopover at Murray Bridge to say hello to my Mum and pick up my new glasses from the Optician.

We arrived home just on dark, unpacked the car, lit the fire and enjoyed an evening meal of takeaway Chinese with some other friends.

                                                    ********************************

I am currently updating the For Sale pages on the blog, but that might take a few days......... so in the meantime I have all the Ready, Set and Sew kits listed.

To make way for new stock, and help clear my shelves, for the rest of June, I am offering any of these for the Special price of $100 (plus postage). Please check out the For Sale Page at the top of this page and email me if you would like any of these.

The other pages will be updated as soon as possible.

I look forward to hearing from you. Be back soon.

I am still here...........

Thought I better check in just in case you were all worried about me!! The last couple of weeks has been all go at Number 8. Am off to the city tomorrow to take my 'wares' to the SA Quilters meeting. So there has been much preparation getting things organised.

There has been more Ready, Set & Sew kits cut ready for the checking and packing queens.

I had a LOT of drawers with fabric collections in them, waiting for their turn to be cut into kits....and now a few of them have been packed into 7 metre bundles ready for someone to buy and make their own large quilt.

I made a sample quilt of one of the Ready Set & Sew designs, this one has a green border, the other has a blue............the colours are much more vibrant than they show in the photo.

A few more bundles cut ready for the packing fairy.

.and then the train arrived with the fairy on board........

and she has waved her magic wand.................

.and Pat has counted and checked my cutting........

and we are almost ready to pack the car tomorrow.........

In between there was a visit from Helen to show Raylene the quilt she has just finished for her granddaughter.

There was a visit for a couple of nights by DS and family and we managed some sewing time with Miss Bridie. (Sorry for the blurry pic, but someone tried to take it before I could protest).

Val called one morning with a friend from Darwin. Sonya was a customer of Val's when she had her shop in Darwin, before her move to Mundulla. (A lot of Val's fabrics seemed to have landed at my place so she feels a home here).

Note the shelves in the photo above, compared to this one..........and now that top shelf is almost empty too.

So it's time to head to the kitchen and see what there is in the fridge to eat. Tomorrow will be interesting to see how much room there is left in the car, knowing that there will be 3 of us and luggage too.

I will be back very soon with another post. I had hoped to update the Sale pages of this blog, but that will have to wait now. Tomorrow is the start of June, and I will be offering lots of bundles at sale prices which will be available to my blog readers until the end of June. It will be lovely to see you at the meeting tomorrow night, but if not, please come back and check my blog from next week.

Next week will be catch up week, lots of blogs to read, and some relaxing in between spending some time with Max again. He must be feeling rather neglected.

Be back soon,
Blessings, From Jude

A bit of this and a bit of that..............

I see that 17 days have disappeared since my last post and today I had a gentle reminder that there has been no blog for May. So here I am. The weather has turned out very cold and we had a frost this morning, so I have the laptop on my knee and am sitting in the chair by the fire. (I will tell you that I did not see that frost, but was told about it.)

In my last post I hoped that my 'get up and go' would return soon, Not long after that I thought that it had returned as I got back to work with Max and spent time in the garden. But the next week it left again. Some days are productive, and others are not. So I am just going with the flow, and listening to my body.

Going back through the photos I have found a few that tell me what has been going on here at Number 8. Or should I say, what has not been going on??

There was a QFO day....(Quilts For Others)......... more string blocks being made, but the container doesn't seem to going down............

..and these blocks are now being laid out......
-

.........and another day with friends that we enjoyed stitching time with.....(there might have been more socializing time than stitching time!!)

..................and a load of wood was delivered to my shed.......

............some time has been spent trying to sort fabric for the coming market day.......

Another year has gone and I am another year older,,... which is so close to Mother's Day which means that this collection is for 2 special days................

....it was a surprise to have this box arrive at my door one day.........

..and fortunately good friends turned up a few days later and soon organised the setup.....which was followed by Chinese takeaway while checking out how the TV works.............

.........and I confess to a some time since then 'cruising' through the movie list of Netflix.........
There has also been more book reading time, and some stitching time with Dear William. (I shall do a separate post about Dear William  sometime.)

I drove to Murray Bridge on Mother's Day and enjoyed time with family at Mums.

Monday I had appointments in Murray Bridge and enjoyed coffee time with my brother and his wife.

That's about all for now. Another time there will be an update of quilting with Max and a post  about Dear William.
I am hoping for that get up and go to return permanently very soon, as the fairy is due to return next week and she will be 'cracking the whip' as we prepare for the market day.

Stay warm in the southern part of the world, and stay cool if you are heading into warmer temperatures.

Blessings, From Jude
