Quilt Showcase in Melbourne

The Vic Quilters Showcase has needed to change it's plans quite a few times in the last 2 years due to the Covid restrictions. The show for 2020 was cancelled altogether and this year the dates were changed a couple of times due to lockdowns and then a decision was made to have a virtual show. (We have been so fortunate in South Australia to have been able to have our state and local shows.)

I have 2 customers from "over the border" who regularly enter into Showcase and in 2020 I quilted 3 quilts that I knew they planned to show. Thus these were not shown on the blog. This year those same quilts were delivered to Melbourne for judging. Recently I had a message from one lady to tell me that she had won a prize and more would be revealed on December 7th! We then received email invitations to a Zoom Presentation. Certainly something different, but well done to the Victorian committee for all the different planning that was necessary for this to happen!!

To see a full list of entries and winners, click on the link vic quilters website.

I put December 7th into my diary at 11am, and duly logged on to find out the results!! But, an err derr moment from me, because I forgot about the time difference across the border and logged on half an hour too late!! I did get to hear the major prize winners though. And a couple of phone calls later I was stunned to find out that all 3 quilts won a prize!! Now I can post photos of these quilts.

This is One Block Wonder 2020, made by Lois and received 1st Prize in the Mainly Pieced Traditional, 2 person, Amateur/Professional Category.
When I photographed it I put it longways on the bed.....

.............but on the website I see that it goes across, so rotated the photo to get this. I admire the work that goes into these One Block Wonder quilts, and the chosen fabric looks so different  in each block. Well done Lois.

As the fabrics in this quilt were so busy, it was quilted allover with a swirly pattern.

This quilt, Metropolis, was made using all 75 blocks of Elizabeth Hartman's Patchwork City, and Sherrel has arranged them in colour families. It was Runner Up in the Modern Quilts, 2 person category.

This was quilted allover with a pattern called Cityscapes.

And this is the back of the quilt, a stunning fabric just meant for this quilt.

This is Sherrel's other quilt, called One Day, One Block, One Year, and used the blocks from Kathryn Kerr's 365 Challenge. It was entered into the Mainly Pieced, Traditional, 2 person, Professional Category, and received Runner Up ribbon. This was custom quilted.

It is rather difficult to see the tiny piecing in these photos and is a quilt that really needs to be seen up close and personal.

I went looking to find a photo I took before it was quilted. These blocks are 3" finished, so you get the idea of the tiny pieces!! Well done Sherrel.

Congratulations to both ladies, and thankyou for the opportunity to quilt your quilts.

Blessings, From Jude

My word - well done to the quiltmakers and well done to you!

I loved the second one - but the third one - gosh amazing!!! - considering the size of the blocks.

Congratulations and well done to all in these difficult times. Wonder if Victoria will ever have another quilt event? I know we've lost one of the big ones to Queensland. Take care & hugs.

Great to see border restrictions didn’t stop a dedicated partnership doing what 3 ladies do so well. Produce stunning quilts that deserve more ribbons to display. Congratulations 👏
