Day Nine....................Friday, November 17th

Day nine and it was time to hook up and head off along the highway to the next destination. Before we left I took a few photos of Meckering taken from our stop. ....................

There is a lovely area by the roadside of a park, with newly planted trees and a park..........

......and a memorial garden................

Meckering is famous for an earthquake in the area in 1968.

This is a section of the railway line that was damaged...................

While we were still having brekkie we received the first of many phonecalls from friends in SA asking if we had heard the news..................

Police are investigating a shooting incident at Senior in the states south-east during which two police officers and a suspect have been shot. About 11.20pm on Thursday 16 November, police attended a property on Senior Road near the Victorian border to investigate an earlier incident. Attending police were confronted by an armed suspect and a shooting incident has occurred. One of the responding police officers sustained fatal gunshot wounds and despite the efforts of his colleagues and paramedics sadly died at the scene. A second police officer received non-life threatening gunshot wounds and has been transported to Adelaide for treatment. A third police officer at the scene was not physically injured and rendered assistance. The alleged suspect was also shot by police and sustained serious life threatening injuries. He was treated at the scene and has since been flown to Adelaide where he remains under police guard.

This tragedy has hit home to us as Senior Road is where our farm used to be, and the property was across the road from where I lived in the 90's, and we know the family involved. 😢😢

We soon arrived at Toodyay, set up, unhitched and settled in for a quiet afternoon. The park is a pretty peaceful spot in the hills north of Perth, with many birds and the Avon river flowing by. The kookaburras chorus often during the day.

There was a problem with the Electric Thermal Overload switch and Mr Fixit spent time in the afternoon sorting that out. (It is all double dutch to me, but I am very glad that the man of the trip understands these things and carries lots of spare parts in the car and the van!)

While he kept busy with this job, I confess to an afternoon nana nap. Well it is a holiday after all!?

That's all for this post, be back soon with Day 10.

Blessings, From Jude

Ah, Meckering & the earthquake. K was in Perth working on a building site when it struck & recalls how scary it was. Thanks for sharing. Off to your next day.
